審査講評（二次審査員）58I really enjoyed seeing children’s works from all over the world. Each one was excellent, and choosing winners was hard. I noted significant and interesting differences between artworks by Japanese children and those in other countries.It was a great opportunity to see art showing actual scenes through the eyes of children, and demonstrated their careful consideration of how and what to depict.My congratulations go to the winners, and I encourage those who didn’t win to try again next year.I’ve drawn for a long time, and I still think about it a lot. At first I just drew things around me or stuff I was thinking about. As time went on I began to take more notice of artistic theory and decorative motifs, which has sometimes caused me to limit my self-expression or obscure the themes I’ve been working on, either subconsciously or intentionally. This discipline can be important in art, but sometimes it’s nice just to throw the ball straight.I enjoy judging the yearly World Children’s Picture Contest because it exposes me to art that highlights Works vividly exhibiting children’s artistryThe fresh outlook of children all over the world 世界中の多くの国々から集められた子どもたちの作品をとても楽しく見ることができました。正直に言ってどれも力作ばかりで、本当にどの作品を選んだらよいか悩む審査でした。日本の子どもたちの作品と海外の子どもたちのそれとを比較すると、それぞれ特徴がかなり違う印象であり、とても興味深いものでした。描いている子どもたちの楽しそうな顔が目に浮かぶような絵や、どう表現したらいいのか思案している様子がうかがえるような作品を審査できるのは、とても得難い経験でした。今回入賞された皆さんまことにおめでとうございます。残念ながらあと一歩のところで入賞を逃した子どもたちも、また来年のコンテストを目指してください。 絵画を長く描いていると、いろいろ余計なことも覚えます。初めは自分の身の回りや、自分が体験した心に残るものを描きますが、描くうちに絵画性や装飾性ばかりが気になったり、無意識、時には意図的に主題を隠したり、ぼかしたり。もちろん、その諸々は絵描きにとって重要なのですが、直球の絵の気持ちよさを思い出す時もあります。年に一度の「世界こども図画コンテスト」の審査は、数々の素直な表現に触れながら楽しく行っております。 本年はコロナの影響で、子どもたちもいつもより限られた場所や状況で生活していることと思います。さまざまな出会いの機会が減ったり、体験できることが限定されたり。それでも新鮮で停滞していない世界中の子どもたちの視線が心地よい作品群でした。描いている子どもたちの様子がうかがえるような作品新鮮で停滞していない世界中の子どもたちの視線加か藤とう 敬たかし東京国立近代美術館館長海え老び 洋よう東京藝術大学准教授KATO Takashi Director-General, The National Museum of Modern Art, TokyoEBI YoAssociate Professor, Tokyo University of the Artschildren’s straightforward style of expression.Children all over the world are currently restricted in their activities due to the Coronavirus pandemic, with limited chances to make new friends and experience new things. Despite this hardship, I found true delight in the fresh outlook of the submissions.
